21st. Found for the first time, I had jiggersNative to Central and South America
the chigoe flea, or jigger, at 1mm long, is the smallest known flea. Breeding female chigoes burrow into exposed skin on
the feet of mammals and remain there for two weeks while developing eggs, during which time they swell
dramatically, sometimes causing intense irritation. in my feet, which Matchy taught me how
to cut them out,
my Father says they are worse than mosquitoes, I don't think so.
22nd. My Father has stopt up 2 windows; felt very cold all night.
23rd. Had several Bananas given to me, which is a very nice fruit something like a pear.
24th. Sunday Went out with Mr S. fishing, caught several, one of which weighed 20 lbs.
25th. Studying, but I would rather go out shooting.
26th. Went a fishing, caught 6 snappers.
27th. Rained in torrents at night, and part of the morning.
28th. Took 9 jiggers out of my Father's foot with a pen knife, which he did not like.
29th. The flying ants paid us a visit.
30th. Found out the Papaw trees, which are good to eat, told my Father who went with me to knock down
some, he liked them very much, and made a rod to pull them down; they are as good as Melons.
